Sitka Point Lodge and Fishing Charters

How We Fish

Our fishing boats are geared for Alaskan fishing and meet US Coast requirements. These include GPS chart navigation systems, Citizens Band radios, VHF radios and electronic color depth and fish finders.

Our boats have a heated cabin for your comfort. We limit groups to four fishermen per boat—five by special request at the time you make your reservation. This is the best number for safety and comfort out on the water.

Be prepared to start early.

We will head out onto the Alaskan waters at 5 AM after breakfast. The sun will already be up by then and on the way out we will try to catch an early salmon using lures or mooching. (Don't worry, your friendly crew will explain it all as they help you set your line.)

How to Fish in AlaskaWe will continue to fish for salmon for a while, then head farther out to try to hook some halibut at the bottom of the Alaskan sea.

During our time out on the Alaskan water, you will be provided wet weather gear and all the tackle required for success—getting salmon, halibut, snapper or ling cod to take home, and lunch, too!

You will be back to shore after about ten hours of fishing. Immediately upon arrival, your catch will be cleaned, cut into pound to pound-and-a-half portions, vacuum packed, flash-frozen and boxed for you to take back on your flight home. You can watch this process or go enjoy the complementary appetizers in the lodge before getting ready to sit down for a gourmet dinner with our renowned chef.

Our Gear

Sitka Point Lodge
The Avet MXL 4.5:1
with its smooth drag and
superior casting ability.

Sitka Point Lodge
Shimano tld 2 speed reel. With a two speed reel, you will have the mechanical advantage on pulling any stubborn fish up from the depths.

Sitka Point Lodge
We choose a 6' Seeker deep sea rod for those times you hook into a monster halibut or giant lingcod. For salmon, you need something strong enough to withstand Sitka's powerful kings, yet flexible enough for our acrobatic silvers. Our 8' 3/4" Seeker is the rod of choice.

Sitka Point Lodge
When conditions call for trolling, we use the high powered, electric Scotty down-rigger for that fast retrieve. You will quickly get your line back in the action.

Sitka Point Lodge
No need to bring a fighting belt. You can strap on one of our Braid brand belts for the big one that didn't get away.
